The Minimalist Game is a 30-day decluttering challenge. On day 1 you let go of 1 item, on day 2 two items, and so on up to 30 items on day 30. That's 465 items in a month.
The idea comes from The Minimalists, who call it the 30-Day Minimalism Game. Declutter Quest's version credits them on its About screen. I'm not connected to them in any way; the game is just too good to leave out.
In the app, the game is a grid of 30 days. When you've done today's items, tap the day, confirm the number, and it goes on your total. The top of the screen shows which day you're on and how many items you've removed so far.
Why it works: the start is too easy to refuse. One item? Fine. Two? Sure. By the time the numbers get big, you have a daily habit and a much faster eye for clutter.
Why it's hard: the back half. Days 21 to 30 alone add up to 255 items. The next few posts take the game in thirds, plus what to do when you miss a day.
